To apply for housing assistance with the Housing Authority of the County of DeKalb for either the Public Housing Program or Housing Choice Voucher Program [currently closed] you must submit a pre-application on-line. To submit an application on-line you will first need to register. Registration will require you to create a username and password and to submit a valid email address. It is important that you remember your username and password and that you check your email frequently. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing. Once your application has been processed you will be notified in writing that you have been applied to the waiting list.
Waiting List
When housing assistance is available, we will notify the family in writing. Based upon the family's response an application interview will be scheduled to determine final eligibility.
Keeping Your Application
up-to-date
If you are currently an active applicant on our waiting list, it is your responsibility to keep your information current. We communicate in writing and if we are unable to contact you your application will be closed. If your address, phone number, family composition, disability status or working status changes you must send an email with your updated information to requests@dekcohousing.com.
Final Eligibility The interview will be conducted only if the head of household or spouse/cohead provides appropriate documentation of legal identity. If the family is claiming a waiting list preference, the family must provide documentation to verify their eligibility for the preference. If we determine that the family is not eligible for the preference, the interview will not proceed and the family will be returned to the waiting list according to date and time of their pre-application. The family must provide the information necessary to establish the family's eligibility - including suitability, and to determine the appropriate amount of rent the family will pay. The family must also complete required forms, provide required signatures, and submit required documentation. After the family has attended the interview and provided all required documentation we will verify all information provided by the family. Based on verified information related to the eligibility requirements, and for Public Housing this includes tenant suitability we will make a final determination of eligibility. When a determination is made that a family is eligible and satisfies all requirements for admission, including tenant selection criteria, the applicant will be notified in writing. When a determination is made that a family is ineligible we will notify the family in writing and inform them on the basis of our denial. The notice will specify the reasons for ineligibility, and will inform the family of its right to request an informal review.
