Submitting an application
does not guarantee being placed on the waiting list.
-
Applicants are placed on
the waiting list by preferences, then date and time of application.
The more preferences an applicant qualifies for, the higher they are
placed on the waiting list. The preferences are:
o
Family Preference = one
or more minor children in the household. Elderly (62) and disabled
head, spouse or co-head qualify for this preference.
o
Working Preference =
head, spouse, or sole member of the household is employed 30 or more hours
a week. Elderly (62) and disabled head or
spouse, qualify for this preference.
o
Residency Preference =
applicant family resides or works (permanent non-temporary job) within the
County of DeKalb Illinois.
o
Involuntary Displacement
= applicant family has been displaced by a government action or natural
disaster. [If you qualify for the involuntarily displaced preference
due to a flood, tornado, hurricane, etc or your house has been seized by a
government action, when completing the on-line application, be sure to
select YES to "Are you currently homeless or staying in a shelter?"
We will contact you for FEMA and or government agency certification.]
-
Applications are taken
on-line. If you do not have a computer, you may access the website
through any computer connection (a friend, family, public libraries,
internet cafes, or the Authority’s main office).
-
Applicants must have an
e-mail address to complete the on-line process. Applications will
not be accepted without an email address. DCHA is making strides
to be “green”. Email will soon be the primary method of
contacting applicants. It is very important for applicants to
monitor their email account for messages pertaining to housing
assistance. If you are a person with disabilities and require
an accommodation to apply to our programs please contact the Housing
Authority of the County of DeKalb at 815.758.2692.
If you do
not have a computer, you may access the web site through any computer
connection at the public library or at the Authority’s main office.
-
Placement on the waiting
list does not indicate that an applicant is eligible for housing
assistance. Final eligibility will be made when the family is
selected from the waiting list.
-
DCHA does not give
applicants their “number or rank” on the waiting list. This number
changes daily due to new applicants and changes in preferences for
existing applicants. All applicants will be notified in writing
when they are required to complete a full application for housing
assistance.
-
Applicants who are
already on DCHA’s waiting list MUST keep their household
information up-to-date by notifying the Admissions Office of any changes
from the original application (family members, address, etc.) within 14
days of the change. These changes could affect applicant’s status
on the waiting list. All changes must be in writing. Changes
to household information will be accepted via email at
requests@dekcohousing.com. Applicants must indicate full name and
social security number of the listed head of household.
-
Please do not call to
check on the status of your application. Application processing
will take approximately 4-6 weeks. Applicant status can be viewed
on-line at
www.hmsforweb.com\owl.
-
DCHA has no emergency
housing.
-
If you fully understand
the above information and qualify for 2 or more preferences and are
income qualified,
APPLY HERE.
